Deciding who to name as your executor can be a difficult, stressful decision. This person is being let into your life in a very personal way. The executor needs to be responsible, honest, fair, trust worthy, caring and cooperative. And it helps to be organized and efficient, and be willing to function in an open and transparent manner. Although many people will
graciously accept the role of executor, often times they really don’t
want to be put in that position. Let’s not forget they’re grieving,
too. Often times this responsibility causes executors to feel a sense
of stress and burden. Consider their work, family and community
obligations. Is this person experienced in settling estates, or will
they have to learn what to do? |
